This report examines the Chinese position as well as the possibilities and challenges of the Rigsfællesskabet (political union of Denmark, The Faroes and Greenland) in the Arctic regions and finally how the geopolitical situation in the Pacific is also a factor for the geopolitical reality to the Rigsfællesskabet in the Arctic regions. The report does not predict a Chinese or American militarization in the Arctic regions.
The growth of China forms the basis of most discussions on the development of the future global security policy. USA has decided to handle this by both including and involving China, which is directly relevant to Denmark and the Rigsfællesskabet. This could result in the Arctic regions becoming a future cooperation area between Denmark and USA. The report gives a number of recommendations regarding Denmark’s opportunity to involve USA further in the Artic regions and to the Rigsfællesskabet’s future ability to focus on new possibilities in the Arctic regions.
