New semester course in Shanghai, China, starting spring 2012

"Chinese Politics in a Globalized World" - one semester, three course modules, 30 ECTS

We are happy to announce a new student exchange/study abroad opportunity in Shanghai, China, for the spring semester 2012! This is an exciting opportunity for students wanting to gain valuable knowledge about Chinese politics, society, culture and language, as well as about China's influence in the world in the age of globalization.

  • For more detailed info, see website

The course will run from February to June at the Nordic Center at Fudan University (Shanghai), and the program includes local excursions and travels to the Chinese countryside and the Chinese capital, Beijing. The full-semester course consists of three modules: 1) "Chinese Developments in a Globalized World" (joint course with students from Fudan and Nordic Universities), 2) "Chinese Politics", and 3) "Chinese Culture and Language". The last module is a language course in conversational Chinese for beginners, with more advanced options and individual study plans and instruction being offered to students who already have some command of Chinese Mandarin.

The course is aimed at advanced (4-6 semester) Bachelor students and Master students in political science, social sciences and other relevant fields. We encourage students with a keen interest in Chinese politics and developments to apply!

The course is a collaboration between the Nordic Center and the School of International Relations and Public Affairs, Fudan University; Department of Comparative Politics, University of Bergen; Department of Political Science and NIAS (Nordic Institute of Asian Studies), University of Copenhagen. The course will be taught by highly experienced scholars from the above institutions, with additional guest lecturers - all with first-hand experience from work and research related to China.

We welcome applications starting 15 September, but students at Nordic Universities are advised to apply for student exchange/study abroad at their home institutions and apply for relevant funding in line with local (home institution/country) deadlines. Check with you international office/coordinator.
