My PhD project is entitled ‘Soldiers and Officers´: How discourses of ‘professionalism’ and ‘civility’ transformed the Ghana Armed Forces’. My study aims to understand transformation processes undergone by the Ghana Armed Forces over the years. In addition, the overall objective is to understand how the restructuring of the Ghana Armed Forces in the past has shaped and contributed to the democratic development of the country.
My regional interest of research is West Africa. My thematic fields of interest are: civil-military relations, militarism, African armies, violent conflict, conflict management, human security, youth in post-conflict environments, security governance and security sector reform.
The West African region is an area I am well acquainted with. Not only have I conducted fieldwork in Guinea-Bissau and Ghana, I have also travelled extensively through the region, visiting Cape Verde, The Gambia, Mali, Senegal, Guinea and Burkina Faso.
