Open lecture: The Evolution of World Politics
The Department of Political Science invites you to join us for an open lecture The Evolution of World Politics by one of the leading scholars in international theory, Professor Mathias Albert from University of Bielefeld
Abstract: World politics is something that is fairly new in history. It has consolidated into a social system of its own only during the long nineteenth century. The presentation will trace this evolution and identify world politics as a social system with its own characteristic forms of social differentiation. Such a perspective allows treating world politics in its full complexity without reducing it to a number of single properties. In addition, it allows to conceptualize change in terms of social evolution. The presentation not only builds on, but significantly expands the argument presented in Mathias Albert's book "A Theory of World Politics", Cambridge University Press (2016). All are welcome.
Mathias Albert is a professor at the University of Bielefeld and one of the leading scholars in international theory. He has in particular worked on systemic theory, World Society theory, the sociology of international relations and the geopolitics of Polar Regions.
